The FBI believes Covid-19 was caused by a mistake in a Chinese lab

In an interview with Fox News on Tuesday, Wray said, “The FBI has for some time argued that the origin of the outbreak was due to a possible incident at a lab in Wuhan.”

“I want to point out that it seems to me that the Chinese government has done everything it can to hinder the work that is being done here, the work that we are doing, the work of our US government. close foreign partners. And that is a pity for everyone,” said the head of security.

Wray explained that the FBI has experts focused on the “dangers of biological threats,” including things like the emergence of new viruses like Covid-19, and he’s concerned that these threats “don’t fall into the wrong hands, a hostile . ” .. , recommended state or nation, a terrorist or a criminal”.

He also stressed that the Chinese government is trying to block international investigations into the origin of the coronavirus.

According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, Wray’s comments came after the US Department of Energy concluded that Covid-19 “probably” originated in a Chinese lab.

The paper noted that four other US agencies still believe the coronavirus outbreak is likely due to natural transmission, while the other two remain undecided.

White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby acknowledged last Monday that there was no consensus within the US government about the origins of the epidemic and that Washington wanted to rule out other outbreaks with “facts” to prevent them in the future .

China, on the other hand, lamented being targeted by “slanderers” about the origins of Covid-19.

“Tracking the origins of Covid is a scientific question and should not be politicised. China’s foreign affairs spokesman Mao Ning said on Monday that interested parties should stop blowing up the lab leak theory and defaming China.

China says the US is not credible

China has accused the United States of “lack of credibility” after the director of the US Federal Police (FBI) said the outbreak was “probably” caused by a leak in a lab in Wuhan.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning reiterated that this possibility is “extremely unlikely”.

“This is the scientific conclusion reached by the Chinese expert group and the World Health Organization (WHO) after a visit to the Chinese city of Wuhan,” he said.

According to Mao, the WHO report was “accepted by the international and scientific community”.

“US intelligence has a track record of fraud and deceit. Their results are not credible. “The US is returning to this lab theory, but it doesn’t discredit China, it just undermines its own credibility.”

“The United States must respect science and facts, cooperate with WHO, invite international experts to conduct traceability research in their own country, and share the results with the international community,” he said.

Officials from the Asian country point to the report published by the World Health Organization (WHO) in March 2021, after a visit to Wuhan, where the first Covid cases began to spread in 2019.

In this report, the researchers left open four hypotheses about the origins of the pandemic, but noted that more work is needed to reach a definitive conclusion.
