Volkswagen has decided to recall 270,000 vehicles from the market for safety reasons. The withdrawal came for safety reasons, according to the German automaker, and is about a new slice of model that has technology from Japanese manufacturer Takata installed. The problem may be with the vehicle’s airbag.
No vehicles are currently affected in Germany, according to data from the German Federal Motor Transport Authority, although some may have entered the country, according to Volkswagen. The official cited “failures in the gas generator of the front airbags” as the reason. “This – explains the German automaker – can lead to the uncontrolled deployment and release of metal parts that could injure occupants”.
This is not the first time the German company has encountered such problems. In 2017, Volkswagen had to recall 4.9 million vehicles in China due to defective airbags. The danger six years ago was that airbags could inadvertently deploy, especially in humid locations and hot climates.
“To eliminate safety risks, the affected airbags will be replaced based on availability,” Volkswagen said in a statement.
