Among the aid sent by the European Union to Ukraine are 25 thousand laptops, smartphones and tablets. Just under half have been delivered, with the rest (around 13,000 digital devices) to be shipped over the next few days. The donation came from companies and individuals and explains Brussels as part of the “Laptops for Ukraine” initiative launched last December by the European Commission “in response to emergency devices in schools, hospitals and municipalities in Ukraine”.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Digital Transformation and the European digital industry lobby DigitalEurope also took part in the project. “Digital devices can help maintain essential services in education, health and public administration in Ukraine, where war has displaced thousands and sought safety in shelters far from their homes, and hundreds of schools and hospitals have been destroyed,” explains the Commission.
The initiative continues: companies and individuals can donate functional devices to one of 17 collection centers in Belgium, Czechia, Germany, Estonia, Spain, France, Lithuania, Hungary, Romania and Slovenia. In addition, new collection centers are opening.
