Dead and wounded as a result of shooting at the mosque in Hamburg

Many people were killed and injured in an armed attack on a place of worship in Hamburg, Germany. It is the prayer house of Jehovah’s Witnesses. It is not yet known who the perpetrator is.

The shooting took place on Deelbögestraße in the Groß Brush district. The police were called around 21:15. Seven people died, according to German media. Eight people were also seriously injured, according to the Hamburg local broadcaster.

Much is still unclear about the perpetrator and motive. A police spokesperson said they heard gunshots from upstairs after officers entered the building. When the police looked there, they found a dead body, “probably the perpetrator or one of the perpetrators”.

“We have no indication that the perpetrator has escaped, but we have indications that the perpetrator is likely in the building and possibly among the dead,” a police spokesperson said.

As nothing is known about this yet, the police ask you not to spread rumors about a possible motive for the perpetrator.

Residents were warned of “extreme danger” through a disaster app. The police asked people to stay at home and not call unless absolutely necessary. This is to avoid overloading the network.

Hamburg Mayor Peter Tschentscher expressed his regret over the attack on his social media account. “The news is shocking,” he wrote on Twitter. “My deepest sympathy goes out to the families of the victims. Emergency services are working at full speed to track down the perpetrators and illuminate the background.”
