Tributes were paid to a former candidate Plaid Cymru who died suddenly. Daniel Llewelyn was a long-time activist and local activist, serving as the party’s Community Adviser in the Bedwas Ward of Caerphilly between 2019 and 2022.
He was also a candidate for Plaid Cymru in Newport East in the 2021 Senedd election. The 36-year-old died on Friday, March 17th. Plaid Cymru Senedd East Wales leader Delyth Jewell described Llewellyn as “a true champion of the community”.
She said: “It is with great sadness that we at Plaid say goodbye to our dear friend Daniel Llewelyn. Dan was a strong supporter of the party in Bedwas, serving as a community councilor and running for election on several occasions. He was a true champion of the community. who loved where he came from and wanted to help the people who lived there. Dan died a brutally young and will be missed by many. My thoughts are with everyone who knew and loved him.”
Plaid Cymru MS for East South Wales Peredur Owen Griffiths says: “I was very saddened to learn of the untimely and tragic death of Daniel Llewellyn. He was a proud veteran and passionate Plaid Cymru activist, former community councilor and Sened candidate. His loyalty and devotion will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this difficult time.”
And Plaid Cymru National President Mark Jones added: “It is tragic to learn of Daniel’s death at such a young age. Daniel was a dedicated Plaid Cymru activist, championing the party on numerous occasions and passionately serving his community as a local councilor. My thoughts are with his friends and family at this difficult time.”
