The Metropolitan Police of Barranquilla has announced the opening of a disciplinary and criminal investigation into the death of a child under 4 years old in events that took place last Monday, March 20, at Carrera 68d with calle 19, in the neighborhood of Las Moras Occidente, in Soledad, through a police procedure.
It all happened when, supposedly, the uniformed men chased a man who took refuge in the house where he lived, which also contained the boy and a minor under the age of 15, who were injured during the shots. The minor was helped and transferred to a care center, but died from the severity of the injuries.
Colonel Oscar Daza, deputy commander of the Barranquilla Police Department, pointed out that the investigation will reveal the manner, time and place the events happened.
“As soon as the fact became known, the CTI of the judicial police began investigating the case. Similarly, the National Police is opening a criminal and disciplinary investigation to clarify what happened and to look at the degree of guilt, or not, of the units that developed the procedure,” he explained.
According to the next of kin’s version: “My nephew (captured) was on the stairs, when they came like madmen to beat and shoot him, then he ran and entered his house, while they (the police) leave after firing shots,” said a cousin of the deceased baby.
According to his account, the police entered the house and the child was sitting there playing: “One of the shots hit the child, he managed to run, but he collapsed. my cousin ran to cover the 15 year old girl and they hit him twice on the buttocks and then they shot the girl in the leg,” he added.
“They came in like crazy, my cousin was not armed, he had nothing, but there is always a police officer who rides and rides you and does not leave you alone. The only culprits were the police officers for poor procedure,” the woman concluded.
In addition to this fact, there was another incident in which a child under the age of 8 was injured during a shootout between alleged criminals in the Villa Esperanza district of the Malambo municipality, where, according to witnesses, the case was registered. around 8:45 p.m. in the ‘Cuba’ sector of the aforementioned district.
Criminals on a motorcycle who arrived at the scene shot at some people who remained on the scene and in an exchange of gunfire the little boy was injured in one arm. The boy was apparently playing with other minors.
Authorities are investigating what happened to find those responsible for this other violent act against a minor.
