There could be at least nine victims in the horrific crash involving two military helicopters in Trigg County, Kentucky (USA). According to local news, the tragedy occurred yesterday, Wednesday, March 29 at around 21:35 (local time): two helicopters crashed to the ground after a mid-air collision, but at this time the number of victims is not yet confirmed.
Speaking to the BBC, a Fort Campbell military base spokesman confirmed that two HH60 Blackhawk helicopters crashed during a “routine training mission”. “The condition of the crew members is currently unknown,” he said. “The command is currently focused on taking care of the military and helping their families.” The helicopters involved are from the 101st Airborne Division.
A witness who resided about a mile from the crash site said he heard a “loud explosion” followed by “two explosions”. Trigg County guard James Hughes, who lives about half a mile away, also confirmed that he heard a crash-like sound before two separate explosions. East Golden Pond Fire Brigades rushed to the scene to put out the fires from the two helicopters. Instead, an investigative team was tasked with investigating the accident to clarify the dynamics and causes.
