Russia, explosion in a bar in St. Petersburg: military blogger Tatarsky died

An explosion rocked a bar today in St. Petersburg, Russia’s second-largest city, and Russian media report that blogger Vladlen Tatarsky was killed and 15 people were injured. The explosion occurred precisely at “Bar da Rua” and, according to the local press, was caused by an “explosive device” carried by one of the bar’s customers.

The pro-Putin blogger has struggled in Donbass in recent months. At least 15 people were injured in the attack near the university. The TASS agency specifies that the explosion was caused by more than 200 grams of TNT.

Tatarsky was meeting some members of the public and a woman supposedly gave him a statuette which, it turns out, exploded. The facade of the building would have been damaged. Local media do not refer to any claims of responsibility. Since the start of fighting in Ukraine on February 24, 2022, there have been several fires and explosions in Russia, with no clear indications of connection with the conflict.

Russia’s Interior Ministry said everyone in the bar at the time of the explosion had been “verified for involvement”. Tatarsky was a pro-war Russian military blogger in Ukraine. The BBC reports that his real name was Maxim Fomin and that he had also gone to the front in Ukraine and gained particular notoriety last year after publishing a video filmed inside the Kremlin in which he said: “We will defeat everyone, we will kill everyone, we will rob everyone. as needed. The way we like it.
