A leader of the Islamic State terrorist militia was killed in a drone strike in northwest Syria, the US military said. The attack was led by the US military.
ISIS leader Khaled Aydd Ahmad al-Jabouri is said to be responsible for planning attacks in Europe. He is also said to have established the leadership structure within ISIS. The US said his death would “temporarily impair the organization’s ability to plan foreign attacks.”
The drone attack was carried out yesterday, but the US only announced it this morning. The exact location of the attack was not disclosed. According to the Americans, there were no civilian casualties.
Although the terrorist organization lost its last territory in Syria in 2019, ISIS continues to be active in Syria and Iraq. According to the Americans, the group “continues to pose a threat to the region and beyond.” The US military has about 900 soldiers in Syria.
It’s not the first time the US or its allies have killed an ISIS leader. Abu al-Hasan al-Qurayshi, the supreme leader of ISIS, was killed last fall. At the end of January, the United States announced the death of a Somali ISIS leader.
