Passengers have been advised that some train lines in south Wales will be closed over the Easter weekend. Busy rail lines in South Wales will be shut down over the weekend while preparatory work for the South Wales Underground takes place. The Cardiff Central – Radyr city line will be closed for the entirety of 8 April and there will be no train or bus service. However, tickets will be accepted on Cardiff Bus, according to Transport for Wales.

The Cardiff Central to Pontypridd line will also be closed on Saturday and Sunday while work is carried out on the line. Tickets are accepted on Cardiff Bus and Stagecoach T4/T4C.

The disruption is due to ongoing construction work on the South Wales Underground and the closure is part of the ‘transformation’ work taking place. Transport for Wales said on its website: “While we are building this better transport network over the next few years, this may mean temporary periods of change in your travel plans.

“Wherever possible, we are planning conversion work for off-peak hours to minimize disruptions and provide connections between rail and bus services.”

Below is a complete list of expected changes over the holidays:

  • Cardiff Central to Radyr (City Line) – Closed all day on Saturday 8th April
  • Cardiff – Pontypridd – Closed on Saturday 8th April and Sunday 9th April
  • Pontypridd to Treherbert – Closed Monday 10th April to Thursday 13th April
  • Passengers are advised that busy train lines will be closed over the Easter weekend. Ystrad Mainach to Rhymney – closed Tuesday 11th April to Thursday 13th April
