The Ministry of Economy plans to allocate that amount to emergency aid in “social, educational, road, humanitarian, housing, among others,” the government’s General Secretariat for Communications reported.
According to the source Ecuador is currently facing “the worst rainy season in the last 15 years”, for which the government of the conservative Guillermo Lasso has turned its attention to extensive aid in the affected areas with the delivery of “humanitarian aid, attention to affected citizens, rehabilitation of ways to ensure road connectivity, allocation of resources”.
And it is that, according to specialized institutions, the coastal area and the Andean highlands of the country have endured more rain than the average of the past fifteen years.
The Ministry of Transport alone has handled 236 road emergencies, the source added, specifying that of the 10,313,164 kilometers of roads that make up the country’s road network, 16.75% have significant impacts for any reason it has recommended that drivers take the necessary precautions.
