War in Ukraine, yellow on classified US and NATO intelligence documents

The Pentagon is investigating alleged secret US and NATO intelligence documents about Ukraine circulating on social media. That’s what CNN reports, citing Pentagon sources. US officials say the documents are real slides, part of a larger daily intelligence program produced by the Pentagon about the war, but the documents appear to have been edited in places. Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary Sabrina Singh declined to comment on the legitimacy of the documents, but said in a statement that the Department of Defense was “aware of the reports of the social media posts and the Department is investigating the matter.”

Mykhailo Podolyak, adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s chief of staff, said on his Telegram channel that he believes Russians are behind the alleged leak. Podolyak stressed that the leaked documents are not authentic, “have nothing to do with Ukraine’s real plans” and are based on “a huge amount of fictitious information”. The emergence of the documents, authentic or otherwise, has drawn attention to when the expected Ukrainian counter-offensive will begin and what, if anything, either side knows about the other’s preparations.
