China simulated targeted bombing of Taiwan on the second day of an “all-encirclement” exercise scheduled until tomorrow and presented by Beijing as a “serious warning” to the island after the meeting between Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen and President of the US House, Kevin McCarthy. Xi Jinping’s army exercises are aimed at measuring China’s ability to “take control of the sea, airspace to create deterrence and total encirclement” of Taiwan, explained Chinese state television.
Taiwan detected nine warships and 58 military aircraft around the island. Taipei also said it was monitoring “Chinese military movements through a joint surveillance and intelligence reconnaissance system”, adding that the warplanes detected at 12:00 local time (6:00 GMT) included a mix of fighter jets and bombers. An explosive situation: many are ready to bet that it will be the next global war front.
