Nuclear weapons in Belarus? “Hysterical reaction”, Russia angry at NATO

Tensions grow between Russia and the West. Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov described Western countries’ reaction to Russia’s plans to deploy tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus as “hysterical”. «The collective West does not seem willing to agree at all on the issue of US nuclear weapons, stationed in Europe, close to our country, but opts for a hysterical reaction to our plans to build silos for the storage of tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus -Russia territory,” said the well-known face of the Moscow administration in an interview.

Supporters of Vladimir Putin admitted earlier this week that plans to deploy tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus are a response to NATO enlargement. “The Alliance is expanding towards the Russian border, it is not Russia approaching NATO”, words with which Peskov commented on Finland’s entry into the Atlantic Alliance. An accession whose process began after the outbreak of war in Ukraine. And the nuclear threat, with an atomic confrontation between the two blocs, is increasingly concrete.
