The funeral of young Italian lawyer Alessandro Parini, who lost his life in the Tel Aviv attack, will be brought to Rome tomorrow. Parini had just arrived in Tel Aviv for a short vacation when he was hit by a car thrown into the crowd by Arab-Israeli Yousef Abu Jaber on Friday evening. A deliberate act, according to what a terrorist attack emerged.
Israeli police sources cited by Haaretz confirmed that no bullets were found in Parini’s body – initially the attacker was also said to have carried a weapon – but sustained significant head and back injuries consistent with the violent crash of the vehicle.
In recent days, Abu Jaber’s family has continued to support the “sleeping” theory, but police have completely dismissed the hypothesis of a car accident, arguing that Abu Jaber acted “intentionally”, according to local media. He threw cars at people on the dock. Israeli police sources quoted by the newspaper said that investigations showed Abu Jaber was traveling directly to Tel Aviv beach at high speed from Kafr Kassem, his residence. This – according to sources – reinforces the view that this was a terrorist attack and that Abu Jabir intended to crush the Israelis walking along the seashore. According to a police source’s statement to the newspaper, the driver “quickly maneuvered between concrete blocks (on the sidewalks) to reach the bike path and crashed into as many people as he could. While driving wildly – he added – he deliberately accelerated and crashed into a group. He then continued to accelerate and hit another hit the group more.” Parini was not alone during the attack. There were other Italians as well. “We heard the roar of the car as we drove by,” they said. A friend of Parini’s was injured and had surgery on his leg. However, they have all already returned to Italy. On arrival in Fiumicino, they were taken unseen by the many reporters present.
Alessandro Parini’s friends will likely be heard by the Carabinieri del Ros on Tuesday, April 11. The Rome prosecutor’s office opened an investigation file: the capital’s counter-terrorism group prosecutors, coordinated by assistant Michele Prestipino, received a preliminary report from Ros and Digos. Murder, terrorist attack and injury cases continue.
Meanwhile in Rome, at Parini’s family home, close friends and family in pain slowly embark on a pilgrimage. Solidarity gestures also come from Tel Aviv. Three flags, Israeli, Italian and British, were projected on the big screen of the demonstration held to protest the judicial reform of the Benjamin Netanyahu government. The text “We stand together” also appeared. Singer Noa, who is the interpreter of the song from Benigni’s movie “Life is beautiful”, took the stage and said a few words in Italian. “We mourn with friends and family of Alessandro Parini, a victim of the situation and terror in Israel. It was important for me to say a few words in Italian”.
