Japan warns North Korean residents about launching missiles and shells into sea

North Korea launched another ballistic missile at sea. South Korea reports this. Japan has warned residents of the northern island of Hokkaido that the missile could fall nearby. Aircraft and ships in the region were also warned. It was soon discovered that the rocket had crashed into the sea.

This is the last in a series of missile tests conducted by North Korea this year. Pyongjong said the tests were conducted in response to joint South Korea-US military exercises. Pyongyang said the exercises were designed to prepare for an attack on North Korea. South Korea and the United States deny this, saying these are defensive exercises.

Earlier this week, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un said his country wanted to step up its nuclear deterrence. State television quoted Kim Jong-un as saying the nuclear program should be “more pragmatic and aggressive”.

In October last year, Japan also issued a warning about a North Korean missile. It then flew over the country and landed in the Pacific Ocean. It was probably a warning to the United States that the country could reach the American island of Guam with a missile.
