A man who posted pornographic images and videos of babies and children for over a decade has avoided immediate arrest. Alan Newman, 42, of Commercial Street, Pontymister, Riska, uploaded over 3,100 pornographic images.

Her crime occurred after a domestic incident with her partner. Newman told her that he had access to sexually explicit images of children online, and she, in turn, told the police. He was then arrested and confessed to police officers that he had been downloading child pornography since he was 30, a period of more than 10 years.

Prosecutor Nigel Fryer told Newport Crown Court on Thursday that among the videos found on Newman’s devices, one lasted more than five minutes and showed a three-year-old girl being held by an adult. Fryer said the ordeal was “very sad for the boy” and summarized some of the other materials in Newman’s possession. It contained images of two babies, aged three and six months, who had been abused.

In mitigating the sentence, attorney Byron Broadstock said his client was “an eloquent and intelligent man who has real ability, but a sense of helplessness led him to engage in abhorrent behavior over a period of time”. He said “this is a person who can be rehabilitated” and added of the crime that “as horrible as it was, there will be worse examples with more images”.

Newman previously pleaded guilty to three counts of possession of indecent images of children, one count of possession of an extreme pornographic image and one count of possession of a prohibited image of a child. Summarizing the case, Registrar Carl Harrison turned to Newman and said, “People looking at these images create a market for these images and lead to more abuse. You used a chat room to share child abuse content. He added that the crime “is so serious that only a prison sentence is warranted”.

However, Registrar Harrison decided not to send Newman to prison immediately, instead imposing a two-year rehabilitation activity requirement, a 10-year notice requirement (to inform police of his whereabouts), and a restraining order. restriction against sexual harm for 10 years. . He was also sentenced to 12 months in prison, suspended for two years.
