Spanish Navy training ship arrives in Lima after crossing Cape Horn

“For any navigator, crossing the Cape Horn It is a unique event because it is unusual and complicated,” emphasized the captain of the ship and the commander of the school ship, Manuel García Ruiz, in statements to the media during the fifth stop of the Elcano in its XCV edition as an instructional cruise.

The meteorological difficulties such as high waves, hurricane winds or poor visibility that make this pass one of the most dangerous in the world, according to the captain of the boat, have not prevented the crew from reaching a unique milestone in the history of the ship

“We were lucky that a small window of meteorological opportunity opened up and we were able to navigate with some acceptable wind conditions, sea(s) waves. Despite all this, we suffered from bad weather,” explains García Ruiz.

“It snowed and so on, but for all of us it was a milestone and it was, as sailors, one of our biggest events,” the captain celebrated.
