A bomb squad was called to a Welsh beach after explosives were discovered. Semas Bay beach on Anglesey was closed to the public following the arrival of the bomb squad.
A small rusty shell was found on the beach at 9am and the bomb squad arrived at 5pm on Tuesday 25 April, North and Central Wales Coastguard confirmed. The detonator was a small rusty projectile a few inches long, about the size of a ballpoint pen, as shown in the photo.
Footage posted on social media showed bomb disposal teams working with the device on the shingle beach, while several emergency services vehicles were parked along the coast, North Wales Live reported.

The Coast Guard posted on Facebook: “Out [yesterday] along with Semas Bay Coast Guard Search and Rescue when one of their teams discovered the ordinance. A very long day: the item was found at 9 am and the EOD (Explosive Weapons Disposal) arrived at 5 pm to secure and dispose of the item.’
The result of all this was a “remarkable result”, the Coast Guard said, with the item safely recovered and the coast safe again. Now home for cakes and medals.”

Bomb squads have been called in several times in recent months across Wales, including in January when Cardiff’s Lumby Way waste recycling center was evacuated after workers drove to work with an unexploded ordnance strapped to the front passenger seat. . In another incident, a “suspicious device” was seized from a house in Bargoed in December, and two men were arrested on suspicion of making explosives.
