King Charles III and Camilla reveal sacred coronation details

King Carlos III and Camilla, the queen consort, went to see a “screen” (a kind of screen) specially made to protect the king during what is considered the most sacred part of the coronation ceremony, the anointing of the monarch with holy oil by the Archbishop of Canterbury. The new screen was created for the coronation of King Charles III, with a design based on a window in the Royal Chapel of St James’s Palace, created for the Golden Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II in 2002.

The canvas, which received the blessing of the Chapel Royal, was designed by Aiden Hart and embroidered by the Royal School of Needlework. The timber structure, designed and built by Nick Gutfreund of the Worshipful Company of Carpenters, uses wood from a windblown tree that fell on the Windsor Estate, originally planted by the Duke of Northumberland in 1765.
