The manhunt is over. Francisco Oropesa has been arrested in Texas, accused of killing five people, including a nine-year-old boy, on Friday night. The news of his arrest was broadcast by CNN and it was stated that he was found in a house a few miles from his home in Cleveland, where the massacre took place. 38-year-old Mexican Oropesa was found hiding in a closet. A tip-off to the FBI was crucial to the investigation.
The victims, all from Honduras, were in the house next to Oropeza’s. According to the reconstruction, the 38-year-old was shooting in the courtyard with his rifle, and neighbors asked him to stop as they were trying to put their son to sleep. He would go berserk on demand: first screams, then gunshots. A security camera caught him approaching the neighbors’ door with a shotgun. The sheriff told local radio that all of the victims were “shot from the neck up, almost execution-style, basically on the head.”
But there is also a controversial aspect of the story. At least 16 people were in the home when Oropeza started shooting, and they said they called 911 at least “five or six times” without assistance.
