The number of Ukrainians who have fled the country because of the war is more than one million. That says the refugee organization UNHCR, part of the United Nations. A total of 44 million people live in Ukraine, which means that more than 2% of the population has now fled.

The UN estimates that up to 4 million refugees could arrive, but this estimate may be revised upwards. If the number of refugees continues to rise, it could lead to “the biggest refugee crisis of this century,” according to UNHCR.

Here you will find an overview of what happened last night during the war in Ukraine. You can follow the latest developments on our live blog.

Two new paintings by Piet Mondrian have been discovered. These are portraits from 1907 and 1908, which Mondrian still paints figuratively.

He donated the portraits to his good friend Cees Bergman. The photos show his two children, Nicolaas and Elisabeth (Betting). Mondrian also painted his other two children, Caroline (Cato) and Cornelis. These portraits were already known, but now it is clear that the portrait of the girl is related to Cato. This and the find of the artifacts belong to Nick Draaijer.

All currently discovered portraits are privately owned and therefore not visible to the public.
