Ukraine, “total control of Bakhmut”. Prigozhin’s Announcement, How War Changes

Turning point in the war between Ukraine and Russia. Moscow forces have taken full control of the city of Bakhmut, the epicenter of the fighting in eastern Ukraine that has lasted since last summer. The announcement was made by the head of the Russian paramilitary group Wagner, Yevgeny Prigozhin: “On May 20, 2023, today, at noon, Bakhmut was taken in its entirety.” Putin’s chef’s message came via a video broadcast by his Telegram press service showing him alongside gunmen in front of crumbling buildings: Prigozhin, in full combat gear in front of a line of militiamen holding flags Russian weapons and Wagner banners, he added that his troops will start withdrawing from Bakhmut from May 25th to rest and retrain. “We completely occupied the entire city, from house to house,” she says.

But Ukraine denies that Wagner’s brigade took Bakhmut. The denial came from the mouth of the spokesman for the Ukrainian troops engaged in the east of the country, Serhiy Cherevatyi. “This is not true. Our units are fighting in Bakhmut,” Cherevatyi told Reuters news agency.
