G7, ultimatum to North Korea: stop missiles and nuclear tests or we will respond

The G7 leaders expressed “strong condemnation of the unprecedented number of illegal ballistic missiles launched by North Korea, all of which violate United Nations Security Council resolutions”. In the final communiqué, the G7 “demands that North Korea refrain from further destabilizing actions or escalations, including further nuclear tests or ballistic missile launches, that endanger regional stability and pose a serious threat to international peace and security.”

These actions, the text continues, must be accompanied by a “rapid, united and robust international response” with “additional and significant measures by the United Nations Security Council”. The G7 therefore again demands that North Korea “completely, verifiably and irreversibly abandon its existing nuclear weapons and nuclear programs, as well as any other weapons of mass destruction and programs involving ballistic missiles”. North Korea is invited to “accept repeated offers of dialogue, including those from Japan, the United States and the Republic of Korea”, a message aimed at putting dictator Kim-Jong Un with his back to the wall.
