Lavrov’s Daughter Goes to Georgia for a Wedding: Fights, Arrests, and Night Escape

Upon arriving in Georgia to attend a wedding, the daughter of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov was met with protests and later left the country escorted by security forces. The information was disclosed by the television network Mtavari, of the Georgian opposition, relaunched by Ukrainska Pravda. According to reports, Katerina Lavrova and her husband, Russian businessman Alexander Vinokurov, traveled to Georgia for his brother’s wedding. But their arrival, subject to Western sanctions, sparked protests near the Kvareli lake resort hotel where the wedding was planned. There have been clashes between police and protesters calling for the expulsion of the couple from Georgia.

The Interior Ministry confirmed 16 arrests, including some opposition politicians. Lavrov’s daughter and her husband were escorted by state security forces and the Ministry of Internal Affairs. It is believed that we cross the border at midnight and are already in Saudi Arabia. According to Mtavari, Vinokurov’s brother, the bride and guests remained at the hotel. The resort denies that Lavrova or any other relative of Russia’s foreign minister stayed at the hotel.
