I’m holding my breath for little Maddie: Searching in an artificial lake in Portugal

In the UK, the Maddie McCann case exploded again in the British press, especially in the tabloids. This is the little girl who disappeared in Portugal 16 years ago while on vacation with her family. On May 22, news of the police search of an artificial lake in the Algarve came in direct indication, perhaps, of the main suspect, German Christian Brueckner. It is known for certain that the man who lived in Portugal between 1995 and 2007 visited these places frequently.

The search in the reservoir near the city of Silves in southern Portugal is carried out jointly by German and Portuguese police, where divers are also used. This is the first official study of the dam, but tabloid The Sun has revealed that it won’t be an absolute novelty. Marcos Aragao Correia, a lawyer, would explain in an interview that he was briefed by Madeleine McCann about the dam 15 years ago by the police.

The lawyer said he organized the first underwater search of the Arade Dam near Silves, just 45 minutes from Praia da Luz, where Maddie disappeared in 2007. He told her that Maddie was thrown into “a deserted lake with turbid waters.” He added that after being ignored by Portuguese investigators at the time, he conducted a special search of the reservoir with a team of British divers, but the operation quickly ended in 2008. however, he found some questionable items, including a long cable and strips of duct tape. “Clues I received shortly after Madeleine’s disappearance showed that she was abducted, raped and killed, and her body was dumped in a lake in the Algarve,” Correia told Sun Online.

The McCanns were staying in a rented flat with their three children when Madeleine disappeared from her bedroom while the parents were dining at a nearby restaurant. According to one investigative hypothesis, Christian Brueckner broke into his hotel room for a robbery, but later decided to take the boy. The man has been in prison since 2019 for raping an American woman during his years in Portugal. The tabloids are now waiting for the little girl’s body to be found to shed light on an officially still unsolved case.
