A double-decker bus crashed off the bridge after it went out of control at the bend. At least ten people were killed and fifty-seven injured in the horrific accident. It occurred in the Indian Himalayan state of Jammu. According to initial investigations, the cause of the accident could have been a malfunction of the brakes.
As the Indian Express reported, the bus driver first crashed into a truck parked on the side of the road to stop the vehicle, but failed and apparently lost control at that point, at which point the vehicle rolled off the bridge into the cliff. In the accident, the vehicle smashed the Jhajjar Kotli bridge along with the load of passengers from Bihar state en route to Katra, the starting point of their pilgrimage to the Mata Vaishno Devi cave. Home to a famous Hindu temple, it can only be reached on foot.
