Yellow in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, where Ornella Saiu, a 40-year-old woman from Sardinia, was shot in the head while working at Sabrina 48 Café Restaurant on the Yucatán Peninsula. He resided in the country for 20 years. An armed man arrived in front of the nightclub on a motorcycle, entered and shot the woman, killing her instantly, before fleeing. According to the newspaper Reforma, the killer had worked at the same place in the past and knew the victim.
The killer fled and police searches began, as well as investigations into the motive. Not far from the club, the used motorcycle and some clothes belonging to the attacker were found. The most likely hypothesis at the moment is that of a crime of passion.
The murder left the Italian community of residents of Playa del Carmen, where the woman was known, in dismay. Andrea Lotito, vice president of the Riviera Maya Hotel Association, described the Sardinian woman as “a great resident of Playa del Carmen and a friend of many” and said it was a “sad day, without explanation, without justification”. According to Mexican media, the woman was a widow – her husband disappeared a few years ago – and she was the mother of an 18-year-old boy.
