British officials are Russia’s “legitimate military targets”. Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, now deputy chairman of the Moscow Security Council, said on Twitter that the UK was waging an undeclared war against Russia. According to Medvedev, the UK is acting as an ally of Ukraine by providing military assistance and therefore the British authorities can be considered legitimate military targets. This comment is in response to statements by British Foreign Secretary James Cleverly about drone strikes in Moscow and Ukraine’s ability to strike beyond its borders. Medvedev highlighted that, in the context of international law, the British State can also be considered at war, as established by the Geneva and Hague Conventions.
Britain is Moscow’s “eternal enemy”, said Putin’s “hawk”, and any British official who facilitates the war in Ukraine could be considered a legitimate military target. British “bugged officials” should remember that Britain could “qualify as at war”, Medvedev said: “The UK is acting as an ally of Ukraine, providing it with military aid in the form of equipment and specialists, i.e. de facto wages undeclared war against Russia”.
