The United States said a Chinese fighter jet performed an “unnecessarily aggressive” maneuver during an interception over the South China Sea in international airspace. In fact, a video released by the US Department of Defense shows a jet fighter passing in front of the nose of a US aircraft and its cockpit, an RC-135, shaking due to turbulence.
In a statement, the US military command in charge of the Indo-Pacific said the Chinese J-16 aircraft performed the maneuver last week and forced the US RC-135 aircraft to fly in its wake turbulence to avoid the collision. “The United States will continue to fly, sail and operate – safely and responsibly – whenever international law permits,” the statement said.
