On the morning of Thursday, June 1, Soledad Councilor Jairo José Samper Rojas was captured near the town square in the Barranquilla metropolitan area. The official is made aware of alleged ties to the Northern Bloc of the extinct paramilitary group Self-Defense Forces of Colombia (AUC).

The lobbyist was approached by the prosecutor’s office’s CTI officials as he made his way to the city council compound.

The Prosecutor’s Office issued a statement stating that the procedure was carried out in accordance with an order issued by a public prosecutor of the Specialized Directorate against Criminal Organisations.

“(The public prosecutor), in response to the parameters defined in law 600 of 2000 (former penal system), resolved the official’s legal situation and imposed a measure to ensure preventive detention in a prison,” the investigating body said. .

In this sense, the prosecution indicated that Jairo Samper will have to respond in a trial against him as the alleged person responsible for the crime of aggravated conspiracy to commit a crime.

“According to the evidence, while serving in an administrative position at Soledad Maternal and Child Hospital (Atlántico) between 2003 and 2006, Samper Rojas would have served as a liaison for the then Northern Bloc of the extinct United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia (AUC) to ensure that the contracts relating to the supply of medical supplies and other products necessary for the operation of the care center have been delivered to him,” it read.

Similarly, the prosecution indicates that the investigation against Samper is the product of a certified copy made by the Supreme Court, as part of a process related to possible links between officials and paramilitary structures in Atlantico.

Meanwhile, Councilor Jairo José Samper Rojas was placed at the disposal of the Attorney General.
