The Ninth Criminal Court of the Circuit of Knowledge Functions of Barranquilla on Friday, June 2, sentenced 30-year-old César Andrés Porto Ochoa, the person involved in a traffic accident last year, an event that killed university professor Luis Fernando. Cortázar Ávila, 67, when he was cycling.
It should be noted that the event dates back to October 2022, specifically on Saturday the 15th, when Porto Ochoa drove a vehicle in an apparent state of intoxication and hit Professor Cortázar Ávila as he was riding his bicycle. The event occurred after 7:45 a.m. on Vía al Mar, near the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
According to the then version, the victim had left at dawn with a caravan of about 20 cyclists who usually leave from part of the road to reach the area of Sombrero Vueltiao, in the jurisdiction of Juan de Acosta. However, halfway through the tour he was hit by Porto Ochoa.
The authorities in charge of the investigation described the event as follows: “Luis Fernando Cortázar Ávila was mobilizing as a cyclist on the right shoulder, in the direction of Puerto Colombia – Barranquilla, when the motor vehicle with registration number GZW-737, which was moving in the same direction on the right lane, it moves and penetrates the shoulder and hits the cyclist, causing him to fall onto the road above the vehicle that hit him with a detachment of one of his upper limbs and causes his death at the scene.” .
After the action, Porto Ochoa was arrested and a few days later a judge ordered his confinement to a prison for the crime of murder with possible intent.

Therefore, the defender of Porto Ochoa, the lawyer Sixto Pérez Cardona, explained that one of the decisions was to request the conditional suspension of the execution of the judgment.
Likewise, it was established in the sentence that Porto Ochoa indicated that the “event has changed him and he is a more focused person, who will devote himself to his family for professional and educational growth”.
