On the day of the attack on the Nova Kakhovka dam, in the Kherson region of Ukraine, the UN celebrates the Russian language. A coincidence that infuriates Ukrainian President Zelensky’s adviser Mykhailo Podolyak, who wonders “Is this a joke? Are you serious? Will there be other reactions to today’s terrorist attack? The organization that should guarantee global security is increasingly turning into a parody”.
The Nova Kakhovka dam in the Russian-controlled areas of Kherson oblast was blown up today with the warring parties accusing each other. The images released on social media are impressive and show the huge mass of water flowing into the damaged part. There would be a lack of 80 people evacuated and the real risk of flooding: “The extent of the destruction, the speed and volume of the water and the extent of the areas that could be flooded are being clarified”, explain the Ukrainians. The Russian authorities who control the area spoke of a “partially destroyed dam” and explained that the water began to flow “in an uncontrolled way and discharge downstream”.
“Russia blows up the Kakhovka hydroelectric plant and creates Europe’s biggest environmental disaster in decades. As a result of the terrorist act, many settlements will disappear from the map. People will die. What does the UN do on the same day? It states on its page that it’s Russian Language Day,” accuses Podolyak on Twitter.
