The US is arming the Ukrainian counter-offensive: Hawk, Patriot and Puma drones

The counteroffensive in Ukraine, announced a week ago by Volodymyr Zelensky, will largely use American weapons. In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, the Ukrainian president urged the Joe Biden government to go against the needs of his army, ready to militarily attack to reconquer the territories lost since February 24, 2022. And the answer came promptly: the Department of Indeed, Defense and the Pentagon have launched a new military support package for Ukraine worth $2.1 billion. Since the invasion until today, therefore, the aid that the United States has given to Vladimir Putin’s enemy has reached the monstrous figure of 75 billion, of which 46.6 billion just for weapons and defense systems. Which attests to how crucial the outcome of this war is for the future of world and country geopolitics.

The supply concerns air defense munitions, where Kiev has already shown it can harm Russia. Missile launchers and Hawk missiles, as well as Puma drones are the weapons included in the deal, reports Il Messaggero. But two advanced Patriot air defense missile systems will also be sent. All to achieve the objective pursued by Zelensky: to retake the areas of Donbass now under Moscow’s control. The counter-offensive has already started and is spreading strongly from Zaporizhzhia to Bakhmut. The next few weeks will be essential to understand the first results of this advance by Zelensky’s army.

So what are the specific weapons sent by the Americans? The Hawk is a missile that provides air defense coverage against low and medium altitude aircraft, which is very efficient and has a high degree of lethality. The Puma drones are produced by the American aeronautical technology company AeroVironment, and are used to monitor and collect information through an electro-optical and infrared camera. Finally, Patriot missile systems will be tasked with countering tactical ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and enemy aircraft.
