A 12-year-old boy was locked in a dog cage, left in the cold and without food. A gruesome story from Lower Austria, where a 32-year-old woman was arrested on attempted murder charges. According to Austrian police reports, the 32-year-old also tortured the boy, poured frozen water on him and deliberately exposed the cage to harsh outside temperatures.
Just last November, local authorities were warned about the situation by a social worker. Lower Austrian police spokesman Johann Baumschlager stated that the mother was later arrested and that the authorities had not made the case public at the time to protect the victim’s privacy. The malnourished 12-year-old boy was found to have a body temperature of only 26.8 degrees. Baumschlager explained that the boy was “in a coma and his life was in danger” when he was found.
The case has only now been made public after the Supreme Court dismissed her complaint regarding the woman’s arrest. According to the court, the mother allegedly tortured her son physically and psychologically, “by hitting him with his fists repeatedly and daily without treating his wounds, leaving him to starve”. The report states that the woman would try to kill the child by soaking the child with cold water several times a day and opening all the windows in the apartment when the temperature outside was near zero.
