France, “new level of horror”. Mayor risks lynching and holds meeting with Macron

France is aflame over the “children’s protest”, so named because of the average age of those arrested, many of whom are minors. Just last night there were riots and clashes in many cities. The French Head of State, Emmanuel Macron, will take stock of the situation of the riots taking place in the country this evening, at the Élysée Palace, at 7.30 pm, during a meeting attended by the Prime Minister, the Minister of the Interior and the Minister of Justice. Tonight there were more than 700 arrests, and attention is particularly high on what happened to Vincent Jeambrun, mayor of L’Haÿ-les-Roses, a municipality belonging to the French department of Val-de-Marne, whose house was attacked yesterday night around 1:30 pm with a car, they broke into the garden gate of the house and then set it on fire.

“A new level of horror and ignominy has been reached,” the mayor of the Paris city belt commune said in a press release. His house was attacked by demonstrators around 1:30 pm yesterday, during one of the protests linked to the murder of 17-year-old Nahel M. in Nanterre by a member of the French police. In the statement, Jeanbrun speaks of “an assassination attempt of unspeakable cowardice”, adding that “the determination to protect and serve the Republic is greater than ever”. Jeambrun further added that he hopes “all of this didn’t happen for nothing”.

Darmanin expressed his support for Jeanbrun and his family and announced that an investigation into attempted murder had been opened and significant judicial police resources had been mobilized. Meanwhile, the revolt spreads to neighboring countries: clashes were recorded in Lausanne, Switzerland, while 35 people, 31 of whom were minors, were arrested and identified in Brussels for having organized a protest. Police arrested 101 people on Friday.
