Taiwan prepares against the Chinese invasion, but the exercise is not going well

Dealing with tanks on the main roads doesn’t seem like the Taiwanese army’s strong point. At least according to the conclusion from this video circulating on Twitter, where we see how the lens of its main gun was damaged after a CM-32 “Clouded Leopard” infantry fighting vehicle collided with a traffic sign during pre-positioning exercises.

Taiwan, an enclave that had been separated from the People’s Republic of China since 1949, is in a state of fibrillation due to growing pressure from Beijing to re-annex its territory. It is a situation that has recently become incandescent again and raises many concerns at the global level. On July 4, the small Asian nation completed the two-day exercises with actual missile launches as part of the year’s most important military maneuvers, in the face of Beijing’s growing threats to its de facto independence, but was never recognized. The Chinese military presence in the Taiwan Strait has been increasing for months. According to the island’s ministry of defense, Chinese warships or planes pass by almost daily. In late June, 8 military aircraft approached the waters controlled by Taipei, 44 kilometers off the coast.

Despite the intensification of exercises due to a potential attack, the military disproportion between the Chinese superpower and the small independent state is clear. Last year, Taiwan’s diplomatic relations with the US and other European partners intensified in an effort to “deter” China’s invasion plans for the “rebel province”. None of the Western countries want a new war front in Asia, especially when the already very hot front in Ukraine is still open. On the other hand, China remains a very strong trading partner that neither Washington nor others are willing to give up on behalf of a small island that wants to remain independent.
