Support for Putin at Trump rally: ‘Hard to believe what you see on TV’

US President Biden has won a majority in Congress since the start of the war on aid to Ukraine and sanctions against Russia. But a group of right-wing Republicans don’t think Russian President Putin is crazy. Some in Congress oppose military aid to Ukraine, describing Ukrainian President Zelensky as a “bandit who shakes up ideologies”.

For various reasons, supporters of former President Trump, still very strong within the party, support the Russian war in Ukraine. Some question the emerging facts, others believe it is in President Biden’s best interest and give no information. Russian propaganda that Ukrainians are Nazis and develop chemical weapons is widely shared.

Sometimes it’s just admiration for President Putin. US correspondent Lucas Waagmeester was at a Trump rally in Selma, North Carolina, speaking with his supporters about the war in Ukraine.
