Disappointing Pakistani Sherpa dies after being overtaken by mountaineers

The terrible story out of Pakistan, according to which a group of mountaineers engaged in the ascent of K2 left behind a dying Sherpa, continuing along the path traced in the mountain, is going around the world. The Pakistani porter, whose job it was to carry the luggage and set up the ropes for the climbers, died a few hours later, apparently without help.

According to what has been found so far, the climbers (about 50) were on the “Bottleneck”, the bottleneck of K2 at an altitude of 8,200 meters and above a precipice. Passage that you are forced to cross in single file to reach the summit. It is at this moment that the Sherpa, Mohammad Hassan, would have felt bad, falling unconscious and hanging from the rope. A fundraiser was launched to support the family and 92,000 euros were collected in a few hours. The incident was captured on drone video by Austrian cameraman Philip Flaemig. “This man – said the operator – was still alive when about fifty people passed by him”.

Meanwhile, Kristin Harila, the Norwegian who for weeks had been striving to complete the ascent of the 14 highest peaks in the world in less than three months, reacted to the rain of criticism and controversy that erupted in the world of mountaineering, with the support of countless Sherpas and Helicopters. “It was a tragic accident”, she said, guaranteeing however that she and the other members of the expedition tried to help the victim for an hour and a half in prohibitive weather conditions.
