Iran has significantly slowed the pace of acquisition of uranium-enriched weapons and reduced some stockpiles. This was reported by the Wall Street Journal, according to which this change of pace could make it easier to reach a nuclear deal with the United States. The longer Tehran delays accumulating highly enriched uranium, the fewer special fossils it will have available for nuclear power. The news comes twenty-four hours after Tehran’s decision to grant house arrest to four US citizens detained for some time. The provision should anticipate the return home of the four.
The signs of a thaw may be linked to the possibility that funds derived from the sale of Iranian oil, but currently frozen in South Korea after sanctions on Iran decided by Washington, will be released. “If Iran – commented John Kirby, one of the White House spokespersons – really slowed down nuclear energy, that would be very good news”. At least on one of the many tension fronts there is an easing.
