Putin presents the account to Prigozhin: what happens to Wagner, tip from 007

There is still great uncertainty about the true relationship between Yevgeny Prigozhin’s Wagner Group mercenaries and Russian President Vladimir Putin. The coup in Niger gave the brigade new relevance after the downsizing in Ukraine following the uprising that brought Progozhin’s tanks to the gates of Moscow. Well, now “the Wagner group is probably heading towards a process of downsizing and reconfiguration, largely due to a need to save on staff salary costs, at a time of financial pressure”, reveals the British Ministry of Defense in the usual update of information on the war in Ukraine, posted on Twitter.

In short, “after the aborted riot of June 2023, the Russian State took action against some other commercial interests of the owner of Wagner, Yevgeny Prigozhin”, say the analyzes of the British services that explain that this process has already started. “There is a realistic possibility that the Kremlin will no longer fund the group,” the report says.

It should be noted, however, that Wagner’s soldiers are playing a role on the border between Belarus, where they are stationed, and Poland, helping to increase tension with NATO. “Putin and Wagner threaten our borders,” Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said in an interview with Corriere. “Poland has suffered attacks on its eastern border with Belarus for over two years. It is a joint plan by Russia and Belarus who want to destabilize not only our country, but the entire EU.”
