Three sisters died on a Guatemalan beach; they went to see the sea

What seemed like a peaceful and exciting family getaway turned into a terrible tragedy in Guatemala, where three little sisters drowned on the beaches of Puerto de Iztapa Escuintla, where they had gone to celebrate the birthday of one of them. fulfill his dream of getting to know the sea.

The girls’ father, Santos Sequén, was very excited to fulfill his daughters’ wish. It never occurred to him that this day could be the worst of his life.

“I kept filling a buildable pool where they loaned us the ranch. They asked me for permission to take pictures of the sea,” Sequén recalls in conversation with the “Univisión” channel about the event that happened in July of this 2023.

The exact moment the family met the sea was captured in a photo where all the girls appear to be holding their mother’s hand, looking hopefully at the horizon. However, their smiles were scattered when a tidal wave caught them as they explored the beach.

After that photo, the current swept away the three sisters, their mothers and other people who were on the scene and, with luck, managed to get back to land; the latter is not the same case for girls.

Shiley, Jackelin and Lesly, ranging in age from 7 to 12 years old, were left at sea.

After what happened, the authorities immediately started a search; however, the hours passed and the minors were still not rescued. Therefore, the firefighters had to deploy two aircraft to locate them.

The desperation this search caused for the relatives was so great that Kimberly Sequén, the little one’s older sister, shared a video online asking for the help of tourists and fishermen to find the girls.

Finally, after 48 hours of intense searching, they found their bodies in the sea. “We found them dead,” Kimberly said, visibly shaken.

“The two boats managed to recover the bodies and were taken to the mainland, pending the procedure of the corresponding authorities,” the firefighters reported at the time.

After finding them, the minors were discharged in a large caravan, accompanied by their relatives, friends and teachers.
