Bus tumbled into cliff: dead and injured

Twelve dead and at least 19 injured. The dramatic result of a horrific traffic accident in the Turkish province of Yozgat: A bus carrying more than 40 passengers tumbled into the cliff. According to the initial reconfiguration by local media, the driver would have lost control of the vehicle, bypassed the protective barriers, and then flew into the gap, finishing the race.

Muhittin Ateş, one of the survivors of the accident, told NTV about his experiences: “I was sleeping when I woke up with screams. I saw the bus crashing into the barriers and flying down. Then I don’t remember much. We were rolling and I passed out. I was fine when I woke up, I saw that we had fallen into a ditch and saved some injured people. When I opened my eyes It seemed to me that I was in apocalypse.”

Cihat Caliskan, one of the passengers taken to Sorgun State Hospital, said, “The bus hit the trees first, then the barrier, first to the right and then to the left towards the cliff.” – The person sitting next to me jumped out of the vehicle. I remember there was a little boy in the seat in front of me, but then I didn’t see anyone. Then I woke up with the screams of the injured.” According to Yozgat Governor Mehmet Ali Özkan, the accident may have been caused by driver error: “There may have been a momentary distraction. The investigation is ongoing and we will have more detailed information in the next few hours”.
