Local officials said a suspect “made several derogatory remarks about the rainbow flag standing in front of the woman’s clothing store before shooting Carleton.” The alleged attacker escaped, but agents managed to locate him and shot him dead after a fight.
Laura Ann Carleton had a husband and nine children. An LGBTQ+ group near Lake Arrowhead remembers Laura for her social affiliation: she didn’t describe herself as a member of the LGBTQ+ community, but she “helped everyone and stood up for it.”
