One child dead and six injured in a landslide in a tourist area in Israel

A child died and six other people were injured in Israel on Thursday after a rock avalanche occurred in a tourist area near the Dead Sea, official sources said.

“There was one dead, a five-year-old child and six injured,” a Magen David Adom (MDA) emergency service spokesperson told EFE.

All the injured were rescued from the area, including two girls aged 4 and 12, a boy aged 8, a woman aged 40 and two men aged 40 and 20 respectively, an MDA statement said.

In addition, the paramedics treated two patients for anxiety.

Military helicopters were deployed to help rescue those trapped in the collapse, which took place in Nahal David, in the tourist area of Ein Gedi, an army spokesman said.

In addition, several groups of rescuers went to the desert area, frequented by hiking enthusiasts because of the rocky mountains.

The surrounding routes were temporarily closed and the police asked motorists to use other alternatives.

Nahal David is part of the Ein Gedi Nature Reserve on the Dead Sea. The campground features a waterfall and stream, as well as a hiking trail on Mount Yishai. The park will remain closed until geological surveys are conducted following the accident.
