Ukraine has a new defense minister. The Supreme Court has decided

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine overwhelmingly approved Rustem Umerov’s candidacy for the post of defense minister.

On Tuesday, the Ukrainian parliament supported the resignation of Oleksiy Reznikov from the position of Ukrainian defense minister. 327 deputies were in favor of such a solution.

Reznikov headed the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine from the beginning of November 2021. At the time, he promised that one of his priorities in this position would be to increase soldiers’ financial security. Previously, the politician held the office of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for the Reintegration of Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine.

The new defense minister of Ukraine

Last Sunday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that a change was needed in the position of the head of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

– In the coming week, parliament will be asked to take a personnel decision. I want to introduce her now. I decided to replace the Minister of Defense of Ukraine. Oleksiy Reznikov served more than 550 days in full-scale warfare. I believe that the Ministry needs a new approach and different forms of interaction, both with the military and with society as a whole. The ministry should now be headed by Rustem Umerov. The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine knows this person well, and Rustem Umerov needs no further introduction. I expect parliament to support this candidate,” said the leader.

On Wednesday, Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada acted in accordance with President Volodymyr Zelensky’s wishes and elected Rustem Umerov as Ukraine’s defense minister. The candidacy was supported by 338 deputies.
