War in Ukraine, Russia bombs port of Odessa again

Tonight, Russia once again attacked port infrastructure with drones in the Izmail district, in the Odessa region, on the banks of the Danube and on the border with Romania. This is the fourth attack on Izmail, its agricultural sector and the Danube ports in the region that Ukraine resorts to after the start of the Russian military invasion as an alternative to blocking the Black Sea. “This is already the fourth attack in the Izmail district in the last five days,” said Oleg Kiper, head of the military administration of the Odessa region, in his Telegram account. Kiper explained that this new attack lasted three hours and was carried out with Shahed kamikaze drones, developed by Iran, which Russia uses almost every night to attack Ukrainian territory. “In today’s attack with the Shahed, civil and port infrastructure were damaged, as well as an elevator and an administrative building in several areas”, updated the local leader.

In addition, one person suffered minor injuries. Russia launched a total of 33 Shahed drones against the regions of Odessa (south) and Sumi (northeast) last night, according to the Ukrainian Air Force. Ukrainian air defenses managed to shoot down 25 drones. At least one of the drones launched by Russia on Monday against Izmail landed on the territory of Romania, a member of NATO. In mid-July, Russia ended a year-long deal to allow Ukrainian grain out of Kiev’s three ports on the Black Sea, all located in the Odessa region. Since then, it has continued to attack the region’s agricultural and port infrastructure, both on the Black Sea and on the Danube.
