Russia, drones in “Stalingrad”: those aimed at Putin’s symbolic city

The city of Volgograd, formerly Stalingrad. it is not for Vladimir Putin one among many. The Kremlin chief’s narrative has always compared Moscow’s current offensive in Ukraine to the battle fought during World War II to defend Stalingrad itself. A few hours ago, a Ukrainian drone was intercepted and neutralized in the Volgograd region of Russia.

It was Andrei Bocharov who told the dynamics of the story. The governor of the Volgograd region wrote in Telegram: “Today, September 7, a drone was intercepted and neutralized by the forces of the Russian Ministry of Defense on the territory of the Volgograd region. “There were no casualties or damage to civil or military infrastructure”: the local authorities reiterated.

It was the Dozhd website that revealed that the region in question had never been attacked by enemy drones. According to Baza, who further clarified what happened, the unmanned aircraft tried to attack one of the military units in the Gorodishchevsky district. Instead, local news outlet V1.ru reported another version of events: the drone allegedly landed on a military site and residents claimed to have heard explosions at the moment of impact. The episode sheds light on the possibility of a terrible escalation of the conflict that is bringing the heart of Europe to its knees. Considering that Volgograd does not share a border with Ukraine, it is natural to believe that this is an attempt by the war to enter Russian territory.
