“If you have information that could help our recovery teams locate the F-35, please call the base’s Defense Operations Center.” It is the singular appeal launched via ‘since yesterday afternoon. The origin of the ‘mystery’ that began in the skies over South Carolina was what authorities defined as an ‘accident’, after which the pilot was ejected from the plane on Sunday afternoon. He survives, but the military is faced with a costly problem: they can’t find the ship.
Base officials are searching for him, in coordination with federal aviation authorities, around two lakes north of the city of Charleston. The planes, manufactured by Lockheed Martin, cost around US$80 million each. And it seems quite strange that such an aircraft would go unnoticed after the pilot’s post-ejection crash to the ground.
