Russian drones over a NATO country? Residents received warnings

The Romanian radar observation system recorded a signal indicating an airspace violation during the night from Friday to Saturday.

In a statement, the Romanian Ministry of Defense announced that the radar observation system at night indicated a possible violation of Romanian airspace during Russian air strikes on Ukraine. The signal was detected near the city of Galach.

The ministry also reported that in connection with a new attack by Russian drones on targets in Ukraine, in the border areas of Romania at the mouth of the Danube in the Black Sea, residents received warnings about a possible threat. “No objects have been identified that fell from the country’s airspace. The search will continue today,” it was reported.

Russian drone in Romania

In early September, Romanian authorities confirmed the discovery on their territory of parts of a drone similar to Russian drones. Romanian President Klaus Iohannis discussed this issue with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. “I strongly condemned the violation of our sovereign airspace, which poses a threat to Romanian citizens,” the politician said. As he emphasized, the head of the North Atlantic Alliance expressed the allies’ full solidarity with Romania, which is “fully protected” and benefits from “the highest security guarantees in history.”

Earlier, Romanian Defense Minister Angel Tilvar reported that parts of a Russian drone fell on Romanian territory. The North Atlantic Alliance responded to reports from Bucharest that debris found near the Danube may be the remains of a Shahed drone launched by the Russians. The Ukrainian side, in turn, reported that during the Russian attack on the port of Izmail in Odessa Oblast, Russian Shahed drones crashed and exploded on Romanian territory. However, the government in Bucharest denied these reports at the time, stating that no evidence had been found for the presence of Russian drones.
